I feel the same way about my two 9000's. ('92 9000, 5 speed, n/a purchased new, and '98 CSE, 5 speed, purchased almost new).
For the past 6 years, I've been making the round trip between southern Illinois, near St Louis Missouri, and San Luis Obispo California about twice a year (2100 miles each way). I've often considered buying a more mainstream car for maintenance reasons, just in case of a break-down along some very remote areas, but I just can't think of anything that would be as comfortable, or enjoyable to drive. Plus, neither of my 9000's has ever let me down along the way. I am getting up there in age, and with the recent loss of one eye, doing my own maintenance is getting more difficult, so I may have to eventually buy that more "mainstream" car, but I suppose that's a discussion for another tread.
As for roads, Route 50 (the loneliest road in America) across Nevada and Utah, and Route 58 between Bakersfield CA and Santa Margarita CA are my favorites. Both seem totally devoid of traffic cops. grin
