I lost power on a busy highway once in the dark (turned out the bellow to the throttle body blew open; without a flashlight, I missed the obvious fix) There was not much I could try to fix at the side of the road with cars, trucks constantly whizzing by. So, I tried to do whatever was feasible at the time, resetting the TPS included. Since that was not the problem to begin with, the resetting did not help. I did notice that the engine would at least idle (as opposed to die) with the TPS off. So I limped home that way (about 50 miles). The car was literally "drinking" gasoline. I called AAA (CAA in Canada, where this took place) for some gasoline delivery with 20 miles to go and the can they delivered was barely enough for me to make it home. I was a nervous wreck with my eyes glued to the gas gauge, one could almost see the needle move. The car normally does 30 mpg.
Yes, the TPS will affect the gas mileage.
