Replaced the exhaust from the cat back on wife's 94 cs turbo yesterday with my son's help in light drizzle. I had the foresight to have replaced the two bolts between the cat and the flex pipe three years ago with stainless steel bolts and nuts so taking it apart was easy. There are three sections from the cat back, the flex pipe, the long resonator and the rear muffler.
Both the rear muffler and the flex pipe came with loose flanges with two holes having longitudinal serrations. Each flange has two bolts having matching serrations at the root of the shank already fitted. It was a very tight fit. I used my propane torch to heat the bolts up and knocked them loose one by one. Because I wanted to use again stainless steel nuts and bolts.
Removing these six fitted bolts turned out to be half of the process. After this is done installation is simply bolting up. I have slight misgivings after installation however having tampered with the original configuration. Am I doing the right thing? Guess time will tell.
