The alarm/central locking on my mother's '95 9000CS (112k) is acting up.
Incident 1: my mother had just stopped at a rest area and opened her door and the alarm went off. Doors were not locked, but the car was apparently alarmed somehow, or so it thought. She turned it off with the remote.
Incident 2: my mother had just parked at the grocery store and as she removed the key from the ignition, all the doors locked on her. No alarm went off.
The funny thing is, I thought the alarm on her car was turned off -- I thought that if you alarmed the car with the remote and then used the key to open the door, the alarm would go off ... but it doesn't. Perhaps I was mistaken.
It is possible that the batteries in her remotes are going (it's been several years, at least, since they've been replaced (i.e. before we bought the car)), but could the remote batteries really be the culprits?
I guess I'm just puzzled how the system alarmed itself. If she had accidentally hit the remote while in the car before she got out, the doors should have locked, it seems to me.
Annoyingly, the LED on the left speaker grille is missing, so can't use that as a dianostic.
Any light anyone can shed on this would be great.
TIA,
Tim B.
