I haven't tried pulling the ABS fuse to test the operation of the brakes w/o ABS. Its in my plan to do so when I get back to the car. Interesting you mention an "adaption run". I'm not sure that this applies to ABS as it does to the engine ECU's handling of turbo thrust. But I had a haunting suspicision that this may be the case, so I disconnected the battery for a day, no change to ABS issue.
Since posting the origonal message, I have tested the two front wheel speed sensors for resistance, and both have the nominal 1200 ohms. The hub gear teeth are clean, so I think the problem is elsewhere. Maybe I didn't bleed the system as perfectly as I think. I'll do that again.
