blue smoke, valve guide seals for sure?

My kids want me to fix the "blue smoke" problem on my 93 9000 CSE w/245,000 miles. Car runs G-R-E-A-T but can (i.e., almost always does) have a large plume of blue smoke at startup. After driving awhile, the smoke is very subtle and stays that way. Once car is turn off, then on, another big plume. Plugs look clean, engine power is not diminished from the "time before the smoke".
I'm fairly sure that this is due to a leaking valve guide seal(s), not rings. I figure with engine off the oil seeps thur the seal(s) into the cylinder(s) and pools up. When I start the car, the accumulated oil burns off and makes the plume. When the puddle is depleted after running the motor for a few minutes, the subtle smoking is due to the oil leakng past the seal in "real time".
Anyone care to contradict the valve guide seal theory? Fixing the seals is within what I'm willing to do for a car wth 245,000 miles (I'd also do the headgasket-no choice there, and timing chain guides and tensioner). Rings, on the otherhand, is getting more involved that I care to get -- having just seen my well-running 92 9KT suffer a transmission death at a mere 195,000 miles.
meanwhile, the 98 CSE awaits inspection/registration for the road, and the 88 SPG wonders when it'll get off the blocks and on the road.
