something called "syncro-shift II", according to the Saab tech at the local dealer. This is a synthetic 70-78W gear oil for manual transmissions. He tells me they've been putting this stuff in all of the transmissions, all years, 900, 9000, 9-3, & 9-5, instead of the Saab Synthetic. Supposedly it makes a big "difference" and is compatable with original fluid (which came out of my 125,000 mile 98 CSE, smelling burnt, very black, and very thin).
He suggest I drain the old stuff (done), add 1.8 liters of syncro-shift, run for 500 miles, then drain and replace it with 1.8 litters of new syncor-shift. I'll try it and let ya all know.
BTW, the stuff is about $30/quart, and you need 4 quarts for the fill/drain/fill cycle. I wonder if the stuff is available at the local auto super stores for $5/quart, wouldn't be surprised.
