I assume you've got the two-belt car (depends on the year). It is quite easy to do without removing the compressor.
First, note exactly which groove the belt runs in on the compressor.
You need a 17mm and a 13mm wrench. There is a bolt through the pulley with a 13mm nut sitting on top of a 17mm. Slip the 17mm on to hold the big nut steady, and loosen the 13mm. Don't take it off (yet). The pulley will move and the belt will lose tension. You can now take the belt off.
Now, simply undo the 13mm and 17mm bolts, and pull the pulley off the shaft. Slip the new pulley, put on the bolts, and you can retension the belt. Essentially, when you turn the 17mm bolt, it turns a toothed gear that rides in a ratchet. This moves the pulley up and down, tensioning the belt. Hold the proper tension with the 17mm, and lock down the 13 to keep it from moving. I find it helps to slide the coolant reservoir off it's mount and out of the way - no need to disconnect it.
