Need some more details-
Does the Battery light ever come on when the engine is running?
When you see 11 volts - or any voltage much below about 12.2 - is it after the car has moved about 50 yards after starting? Or is it only right after the car has started, but before you've driven anywhere?

When the battery has gone flat - what do you do to get it going? Stick it on a charger for a while, get a jump, etc?

Has this battery gone dead a few times?
Have you removed the battery clamps, cleaned the mating surfaces (fine sandpaper is good), and made sure they are socked back down?

When the car first starts, the EDU grabs a 'starting voltage'. This voltage gives some insight into the state of the charging system. It is a voltage in the 8-12 volt range, and it varies wildly from car to car. The EDU will hold that voltage until (1) you drive off, or (2), you select a different display on the EDU before driving off.

If the Battery light is coming on when the engine is running, that is a sign of an alternator problem. Replacing the VR would be a good start. Try and notice when the light comes on - is it at idle, or at high RPM?

Obviously if the battery clamps are in bad shape, you can have a bunch of starting issues. A visually clean clamp means nothing - the current flows through the mating surfaces that you can't see - the inside of the clamp and the outside of the post.

If the battery has gone dead a few times, it should be replaced. Car batteries aren't designed to be run flat. Every time that happens, they lose life. They may charge up just fine, but they have little or no capacity, and can lose charge overnight. Even a new battery can be destroyed by running it dead a half dozen times or so.

Yes, it could be some sneak current draw, like a trunk light that stays on. But those are quite rare, despite the fact that everyone wants to believe in them.

The keys are - is the Battery light coming on? Are the battery connections good? Is the belt properly tensioned? When does the light come on (if it does?)
