Since I got my '96 CSE almost 3 years ago I would get an occasional hesitation in first or second. More in hot weather than not, but could be anytime. It wasn't like a misfire or hiccup... just a slight stumble. In that time the car has twice started on 3 cylinders. It ran fine after a minute or two. Once it threw a CEL, which cleared a couple of drive cycles later. Other wise the car ran fine and is plenty fast enough.
On Sunday I finally replaced my old DI with a new one I had bought before a long trip but never installed. At least so far the stumble--which I had noticed more often lately-- was gone. I was surprised at how much smoother the new DI made the car feel. Of course it's the same as giving a car with a conventional ignition system new cap, wires, rotor and coil, but overall drivability is really improved.
The current heat and humidity makes the car less than happy--it just lacked its usual poke going to CT yesterday-- but that will clear up with the weather and full power should be back soon.
FWIW, I use mid-grade gas all the time. Don't seem to get any pinging and I boost into bottom of the red before the ECU backs it down.
