a lot of applications have internal slave cylinders. i've personally worked with them on jeeps, cheverolets, ford trucks and probably many more. they are packaged cleanly and offer a simpler mechanical system of hydraulic clutch control but obviously have the major drawback of requiring gearbox removal to get to them.
unlike external slaves, they have a rougher environment. they live right around the crankshaft and rear main seal, deal withe vibrations, heat cycles, caustic chemicals, excessive force on their thrust (throwout) bearing which spins millions of times. they are concentric around the transmission input shaft so the piston is doughnut shaped and has more surface area to seal (and fail)
like many crtical replacement items (exhaust, alternators, clutch, radiators, compressors, etc) they NEVER seem to last nearly as long as the factory originals did. WHY IS THIS? WHY AM I PULLING THIS TRANSMISSION OUT AGAIN LESS THAN 2 YEARS LATER?
i hate them
