Friday evening my daughter called from midtown Manhattan saying the 95 525i is stranded. So I asked her to call AAA to have it towed home. No big deal. Another fun job to tackle. There is nothing I can't do in my driveway.

The problem starts when I decided to go pick her up because the two truck took forever to arrive. So I left home with wife's 94cs at around 11 PM. But I would never get to Manhattan that night. Near exit 14C, there was a noise in the engine compartment. The battery light soon came on. I knew right away the belt went. So I took the exit to Newark Airport, passed the toll booth and pulled over.

I can't bother AAA two tows in one night so I called my son to come resuce me with tools and a spare belt looped on the tensioner I removed from the ruined engine on the 94cde I did a couple months ago. He came. 30 minutes later I have the engine started again ready to go to Manhattan.

But there is something wrong at idle. The engine rocks back and forth about 1/4" at idle. The top mount is new. My guess was the rear mount went but I can't do anything but drive now. Nor was I able to look further into it. It was almost 1 in the morning almost 40 miles from home. I decided to go home from there and let the tow truck pick up my daughter and the 525i.

I never made it home driving the 94cs. I came home sitting in the passenger side booth of a flat bed. At Exit 9 where I was getting off, sounds in the engine started again. This time it is not the belt. It can't be. My guess is the engine vibrations the past 25 miles caused something else to break. The engine idles but it won't go anymore, accompanied by smoke from the engine.

Another 40 minutes later. A Turnpike tow truck flat bed the 94cs 5 miles home.

I surveyed the damages this morning. The 525i had a blown radiator. The driver side plastic part below the coolant hose connector was torn apart. The connector was okay. It left a hole 6 inches long by 3" wide. It is minor. The 94cs I just had my two sons help me pushed up the driveway from the street. I don't know what the damage is but I will let you know hopefully very soon. My guess is it is going to be much more severe.
