I bought this car with the seller stating that it had a bad head. The oil had water in it and the water had oil in it. After removing the head and examing it, the head appeared to be OK. The head gasket on the other hand was shot! I replaced the head gasket and flushed both the water and oil systems. That was the easy part as I soon found out.
The dreaded Anti-lock brake, SRS and TCS lights were on. After reading many posts and finding many bad parts, I went to a reputable indy and had it scanned. The SRS light reset along with other faults but the Anti-lock and TCS light did not reset.
Here is what I found before visiting indy;
Bad safety valve soleniod check valve-this was already changed once and was leaking
Bad PCV check valve-this was blown wide open
I checked both the safety valve and the turbo bypass valve-OK (approx. 34 ohms)
This is what the scan found;
No signal from the right wheel sensor-the pins were pulled out of the plug and not making contact-pushed the pins inward and sealed-OK (approx. 1100 ohms)
Now comes the interesting bad part-the intake air temperature sensor- at ambient temperature read approx. 1.5 Kohms, but after running the car into town and back it read wide open (no reading), when it would cool down it would again give a good reading
After the repair/replace of these parts, the Anti-lock brake and TCS lights were still on the dash-I disconnected the anti-lock control unit under the cowl and the main control unit (ECU) under the driver’s seat and disconnected the battery for about a half an hour and viola-the dreaded Anti-lock and TCS lights are out and the car runs great. The indy stated that the IATS will ruin the gas/air mixture and also cause base boost only operation.
