I hope you have not damged the thread already. Assuming you haven't. Slip the but back on the pin flush with the end and tap it with a 12 oz hammer. Patience is needed. You may want to apply liquid wrench to the joint first.
But you don't need to touch that joint. Loosen the 13 mm nut on the collar to separate the shift rod from the gear shift input rod. Is there a reason you need to loosen the tapered pin?
