(Hum along if you know the tune)
There's a simple check to determine if your oil pressure switch (aka oil sender) is faulty.
Turn on battery power to "run" (the last click before starting the car). If the oil pressure sender is okay, it should be LIT at this stage. If it's not, then your sender needs to be replaced.
Normally, the sequence should go: key in "run" position, light illuminated. Crank starter, car starts, light lingers for a second or two, then goes out.
If the light is on in the "run" position prior to start, and stays on after start, then it's time to look further.
