The Townsend site has a good write up on putting in a ford relay. They claim its a commomn problem. I've had one on my 89 for about 50k. I mounted it under the battery tray, ran the hot from the terminal block through the relay to the starter and spliced onto the old ignition switch wire to the starter to get it back to the relay. It cures weakness in the switch circuit but won't fix a bad starter.
