It takes a bit of time and care, and not a little bit of bravery. The switchpack is held in with with spring-loaded clips. What I do is get a small flat-blade screwdriver with smooth edges - nothing sharp. I then gently try to get under one edge and lift it up just a little. I've used bits of cardboard to protect the surfaces. Work the pack up around the edges a little at a time, and eventually it just pops out.
You didn't mention the year of your car. With earlier cars (like '88) the switchpack is a series of switches, each with its own electrical connector. Mark those connectors before removing! For the later switchpacks, it is a single connector.
