Don't worry about your musical preference. The greatest thing about my old Aero was cranking Tales From Topographic Oceans and cruising down the highway with my blinker on. I'm 6'-03" and couldn't see the indicators either. Lucky (or unlucky, depending upon view) for me, my flasher relay was extremely loud - my mother even commented on it.
You might try removing the under-dash relay/fuse box cover. This is an insulated/carpeted piece that deadens the sound. Not too unsightly with it off. That is if you wacky brits have the fuses in the same - yet opposite - location as the ROW.
Back to YES, you're not old. I'm 33 going on 22 - my Aero got smashed so I replaced it with an '85 911 Carrera. The radio sucks but the flat-six sound system is GREAT!
Cheers,
Chris
