the JY called at 4pm, rushed over before they closed, and got my trans. it looks like it was rebuilt recently, has a new torque converter and generally looks clean and fresh.
i used a bunch of cargo straps (locking, not ratcheting) from my special triple 2 x 4 engine beam. i used a prybar to lift a section of the strap to raise the heavy mofo.
well, i got it bolted up tonight. hopefully the converter is fully seated. i heard no breaking noises as i snugged it up.
i have to work late tomorrow, and i am totally beat, so i get a night off from trans detail tomorrow, but i'll get right back at it on friday.
the biggest bummer is that the guy who removed it cut the kickdown cable, but i expected that.
all in all, a very good day, which somewhat alleviates the aches and pains i now consist of.
thank you all for your guidance and suggestions.
BTW, oldsaab, that is one coolass tool. mine just doesn't compare (i'll get pix up eventually)
