Finally my 1st Aero! Great But ???

Finally purchased my 1st Aero. Maybe the 3rd time is a charm! It is a 97, black on black, auto, 112,000 miles, one owner, dealer serviced with all 18 pages of dealers records. Except for a couple of minor blemishes I would say exterior is a 9 out of 10. Interior is perfect. Many of the problem areas already addressed.
The one thing on the service report I don't understand is customer complained of high pitch whining noise....which is present. Sounds like what I thought would be turbo whine to me. The dealer diagnosed it as a "front pump noisey and reccommended replacing the trans" which he declined and traded the car in to a BMW dealership. The transmission performs fine and is way smoother than my babied 93 cse. If I put the car in park and accelerate the whine follows the acceleration. Does that sound like it could be part of the transmission?
My 93 is a non-turbo so I don't know the sound of the common turbo whine? Any thoughts how to check this out. I bought into the car cheap in my opinion $3975 but I would like to stay that way as long as possible.
