I will be going to Toledo, Ohio next week to collect some piping vibration measurements in a refinery. To prepare for that we bought data acquisition equipments to do it. After having great difficulties I finally have the software and hardware set up (I hope). The last time I did this was two years ago and it was even more painful for me getting my feet wet in data acquisition. It is really not my cup of tea.
Anyway, this afternoon I used my 1995 9kcse to test it. I attached an accelerometer to the engine hook as no other exposed engine part is magnetic. The accelerometer has a magnet. With the engine idling at 850 rpm (14.16 Hz) I picked up a frequency close to 30 Hz. I think that's twice the engine speed. The next peek is closed to 60 Hz, or four times the engine speed.
