Hey, sorry it's taken me so long to respond. Yes, the car is a manual and YES IT DOES have a weak synchro from 1st to 2nd, but thats it. It doesn't whine at all; its a fairly new transmission. Not being able to wind it out and slam it into 2nd when challenged at a stoplight is a little annoying, but I know the other driver is supprised when I fly past him running through 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. The most fun I have in the car is on twisty back roads and on the open highway anyway, when you can stomp on it in 4th and fly from 60 to 90 in a few seconds, NOW THATS FUN!
Most of the performance advise I receive from SAAB Techs and from other '91-'92 9KT owners who have done similar to much more serious modifications and had excellent results. I also work closely with SAABs for a few years now and have learned a bit about how the early 9000 2.3 turbos work. The 17in. wheels work great on this car but though I do most all of my driving on the highway, I live in NYC and the stiff spring/bilstien/17in. combination is a little rough, I would not reccomend it to anyone living with similar road conditions. The stock suspension and 16in Aeros was sporty enough, I was just looking for a bit more cornering performance and this combination certainly delivers, it fits the car perfectly; the wheels were custom made with the correct SAAB offset.
The pieces of the Airflow kit I have installed are just the front and rear bumpers so far and I think I'm going to stick with that because it looks so clean. I think youre right, that with the entire kit installed it looks a little too American or Japanese. I do have the rear lights tinted and the brake lights are a little too dim in the daytime so I've made another set with just the clear and yellow parts tinted and they look awesome! Right now it looks great! I'll send pictures to anyone who'd like to see it.
