I'll stick with my response. True, 10W is not an oil base but the viscosity at a fixed temp. With exception of AMSOIL and a few others, most synthetic oils are just a higher grade of dino oil off the hydro-cracking tower with a package of synthetic additives. The funnhy part is that synthetic is still a hydrocarbon, just longer polymer chains. Breakdown is more a function of engine shear and not heat; therefore much of the recommendation isw baswed on the engine itself and driving style. In the north, I agree 0W or 5W is best in winter, but then I'd be careful about drain interval. Many posts on here as well as technical references show significant upper end viscosity breakdown. Try Mobil 1 5W40, run it for 6-7000 miles and then send the oil off for a test. Those results will tell you mjore than anything I can say or others. That way you know what your specific needs are.
