The lines are pretty easy to replace if you're sneaky. I used Ander's method and it has worked great for me.
You need 1/2" id hose, petroleum transfer rated, and abler to handle some pressure and some heat. I ended up going with a Boston Weatherhead 250psi hose because I could find it locally, but I'm sure there's plenty of good stuff online from Aeoquip and the like. I used Dremel cut off wheels to cut the old crimps off, being very careful not to damage the pipe underneath. Leave the actual connection part, just cut the crimps and pull out the hose. Then replace the hose using two quality hose clamps on each connection.
I don't know if the cooler is necessary, but since it's pretty easy and cheap to replace the lines, I say keep it.
