Hello again Barry, Where are you located? Reason is that if you don't know of a machine shop perhaps some saabnet folks can refer you to one, or at least one that is close? Also, it's not uncommon for one shop to refer to another. "Hi, my name is Barry and I was referred to you guys as the best machine shop in LOCATION. I'd like to use you guys but you are over 90 miles away from WHERE YOU ARE. Would you know of someone in my area that you could recomend?" should get the job done.
Did you just do an overheat due to lack of water, sometimes caused by thermostat failure, sometimes by split hose, sometimes radiator failure? Did you run it until you got home or off the freeway or?
Did it boil dry and make lots of steam?
These are all common occurences, don't feel like the Lone Ranger!
Also look the the link below on one of the headgasket jobs done recently.
This particular one cost me a little extra. The *previous owner* had either not surfaced the head, or had an inept person surface the head. Short story is the machinist had to take alot off to get it perfect. He had to relieve the domes to keep the compression the same. Still spent under $250, and that included getting the exhaust manifold done too.
The heads on the 900 and the 9000 are very similar, (and on some model years the same...) so a first rate machinist that does one can do the other.
Let us know how you make out.
