Check the archive. This time of the year is not a bad time to have the fuel pump go south. You don't want it to happen in frigid wnter months. The pump probably cost over $400 now. That's the extent out of your pocket if you DIY.
It is critical to be careful removing the two fuel line connectors on top of the pump. Use only concentric twisting motion. In winter months the chance of them broken during removal is more. After you get them out, apply a little vaseline on the two o-rings before inserting. I've had one of the fuel line o-ring broken after removal. But that's not nearly as bad as the fitting broken which I have luckily never experienced.
No. You don't drop the gas tank.
