Just as a backup in case it starts acting up while you're on your trip; if you squirt some gear oil in there as an easy stopgap measure, it'll quiet it down until you get home.
I did this on a car I purchased out of state, and was driving it home when the CV started hammering away. Found a place where they sold gear oil, gave it a few shots, and made it the rest of the way back with no problems.
Ended up regreasing the joint and rebooting it, and it was fine even after all that.
Probably won't need it, but it's always good to have the option-
