Possible, but highly unlikely, IMOH. This leads me to believe more in the things specific to your car that are connected to the transmission.
Kickdown cable, like someone already suggested. What about the shift selector--that cable could be misadjusted. Are you able to shift the selector on the transmission body itself (don't do this when the car is running!)?
The only other thing that comes to mind is the governor, but that would mean that you have two bad governors, especially if it didn't work in the old transmission.
Also, try the flow chart on the Townsend Imports site for other things to check. I have the SAAB AT manual that I typically offer to loan out for folks to problem-solve, but it is currently "on assignment."
