Investigating a lumpy idle

I've been searching posts and archives looking for guidance before I ask this:
Car started acting up on a recent trip out west. Idle became rough and milage dropped a bit but not drastic. In trying to smooth out the idle I have:
1 replaced all but a couple of vacuum hoses with silicon (ran out) thanks Ari
2. New plugs.
3. Tried known working DIC- behaved the same.
4. Plugs show lean condition confirmed by LH codes. Erased codes and have to drive the car some more to see if they repost.
So, I'm running out of stuff- ah, the fuel filter. You should of seen the crap that came out of the filter! This was a Bosch filter with probably, don't laugh now, 40k on it. I know, shame on me, it's out of sight out of mind, obviously.
Is it possible, for enough junk to have been passed to clog up the screens in the injectors or is that unlikely? How about the FPR. What are the recommended fittings to purchase in order the check the fuel pressure, or is there something that could be gummed up in the FPR itself?
I running out of things to check, and will appreciate the guidance.
Thanks to all,
K
