drive the tapered pin in further. He said I could replace the coupler but just driving the pin in further would do the job.
He did that and the car shifts great. I'd had it hanging between 1 and 2 occasionally and it could be hard to get into 5th. Now it's fine.
This was on my '96.
It could be that the coupler is shot, but talk to your indy and see what he recommends.
