Exhaust Problems

I have a dilema and am open to suggestions. I have a '90 SAAB 9000 auto. with the 2.3 engine. I started out to do the relatively simple job of replacing my exhaust system from the catalytic converter on back. My catalytic converter is in good shape but the other two mufflers beyond the converter had holes in them and the pipes were also getting fragile.
Here is the problem. Removal of the old two piece sections (which included the 2 mufflers) went well until I reached the union where the collar around the catalytic converter pipe joins the new section that I am putting on. The collar that goes around the converter pipe was rusty and broke apart. (It's the heavy metal piece that fits around the pipe and has two holes for bolts and then is bolted unto the other collar on the exhaust The converter pipe is solid and is okay as well as the converter itself. Can I purchase just this collar that snugs up the converter pipe to the exhaust pipe? I certainly would hate to replace the entire catalytic converter just to get this collar. The catalytic converter is very expensive and the one that is there is in good shape.
How would a person get the new collar on the converter pipe as the end is flanged? Is there a split ring collar made for situations such as this?
Any help given will be appreciated.
