Well, I only drove the Lagonda once, when on my 17th birthday my dad took me and my twin brother to the Horsham bypass and let us run it up to about 60 mph. He sold it because of various problems, particularly with the de Dion reear end, and bought an S-3 Bentley which I drove many miles, and which gave me my liking for big cars!
The Alvis convertible I drove a lot when I could get my hands on it - rather slow and cumbersome by today's standards, with no power steering and a three-speed Borg Warner auto, but very stylish and comfortable. It was followed by a pretty TF21 saloon in Alice Blue and that would move pretty well, with an uprated version of the same 3-litre engine, and better dynamics all round.
Have to say that I would love an older car now - like a Bristol, perhaps, or even a 6-cylinder Aston - but you get used to all the toys that come with Saabs, like ACC that works most of the time, much better fuel consumption, and supercar performance by comparison (my CSE goes as fast as the Lagonda with its Aston Martin Vantage engine). I settle for membership of the AC Owners Club and cadge rides in Aces, Cobras and so forth.
