9-5s not as user-serviceable...

...owing to their Tech II oriented diagnosics regimen, it will be more difficult to do diagnosis on a 9-5. There have also been problems with oil pumps, turbos, and oil sludging on some years of the 9-5. Check the 9-5 board for more information, I'd say, if you haven't already done so.
I'd probably be somewhat wary of a 9-5 due to their electronic inaccessibility and the small epidemic of sludge-induced engine failures Saab (and many others) were experiencing in those years. In fact, it can be a real challenge to find replacement 9-5 engines if you're unlucky enough to need one.
So I'd venture to say that it'd be difficult to impossible to duplicate a well-sorted 9000 for reliability and longevity; but there's a good deal improved body rigidity in the 9-5 and lots of people feel they handle better. Not having driven a 9-5 in a long long time, I wouldn't feel ready to comment on that aspect.
On 9000s, as I recall, TCS hung around longest on the Aeros, but don't quote me on that.
