consider checking the microswitch on the brake. if this is a stick there is also one on the clutch. also if clutch the two switches are in series. they must be closed (plunger in) to complete the actuator circuit. this is the way the system knows to disengage if you hit either the clutch or the brake.
you should be able to squat on the ground on the drivers side with door open and undo the cover over the top of the pedals (may have three fasteners if like the one I just did) to expose the pivot points of the pedals. if it's quiet you should be able to push a pedal in and hear the switch click, that's good. if it doesn't click it's either broken or misadjusted. one I just did had a bad spring and didn't work. I pulled the connector off the top of the switch and shorted with a piece of stranded wire pushed into the connector as a SHORT TERM TEST. DO NOT LEAVE THIS WAY. Test proved switch was at fault. Car is a stick so still had a switch on the brake, clutch switch was bad. Switches are the same so if you source one in a junk yard either will work.
