I cleaned the throttle body but did not disconnect the throttle cable and ended up cracking the plastic adjuster part of the cable. I ordered a new one from the saab site. It looked different but worked fine.

I did it in the summer and have to concentrate to remember what I did. I think I pulled a muscle in my neck because I was so contorted down by the pedals.

I disconnected the cable at the pedal.
Then i removed the rug wall piece on the center console.
Then I pushed the cable and rubber grommet thing through the fire wall.
I think I connected a string to it like you mentioned.
The hardest part for me was getting the rubber grommet thing on the new cable to fit into the fire wall just right. I was getting nervous. I finnaly got my fingers in there by sneaking in near the brake booster,I think.

My neck hurt for 2 weeks after that so I couldn't really celebrate how great I was for doing it myself, after all, I broke the dumb thing.

You can do it. Get a good light and sudy it for a while.
