is the sound a head bolt can make when retorquing it after it's been used beyond its designed limits. Heaven forfend that the breaking point of said bolt is below the block deck, making retrieval a dark dark experience!
Whether these failures have happened in Saab cars per se I don't know, but to assert that reusing bolts "should be fine" is dangerous. You may be sending someone down the wrong path, when there is ample common sense to working with new bolts.
I essentially agree that you'd probably be fine with old bolts, but I wouldn't want to chance it on a valuable car. I might be tempted for a car as old as Frank's, but even in that case I'd probably figure the cost of new bolts into the budget. Why take unnecessary chances, however remote?
I highly doubt that many Saabs with gasket jobs done by reputable dealers or independents have featured reused bolts. It's very dubious say that a used bolt would be just as good as new.
Regardless of the data on Saab head bolts in particular, rest assured that snapped head bolts exist in great heaps throughout automobilia.
