Last Friday night the pipe connecting flexpipe and middle muffler of my 96 9000 fell off on I-95 in middle of my trip from Mass. to Newark. Thanks to the help from Mike, and found Gibson Autoworks of Newark was only 3 miles from the hotel so I decided to give it a try. They cut off the flange on the CAT, remove the middle muffler, and welded a new flex pipe and straight pipe from CAT to rear muffler -- I know it's not the best choice to cut the flange on the CAT as it makes impossible to use Saab factory flexpipe later, but I don't really miss the middle muffler anyway, which caused too much trouble.
The shop was run by father and son, they charged me $220 -- not the cheapest for the job, but it's a saab shop which I felt comfortable to hand my 9000 to, and I was 200 miles from home, and they got it done in 1 hour while I was waiting.
After they brought the car to me, I noticed something different, but could not really tell. Only after 2 hours later after I parked the car on the street of NYC, I realized they even washed my car's body and the alloy wheels!
Overall it was a great experience with the shop, highly recommended.
btw the middle muffler proved to be totally unnecessary, the car is very quiet with just one muffler.
