The struts just kinda pop off when the clips are removed, as I recall. Maybe need to do some wiggling, but it's an easy job. Be careful removing the little spring clip so it doesn't go sailing off into the bushes.
You might be able to get a replacement at a Pep Boys, AutoZone or Advanced Auto store. There should be an index for the one you need. Otherwise order from a site sponsor. I got one at a pick-a-part recycle yard.
FYI, *both* struts are needed to hold up the hatch or the hood, so if one is dead it seems like both are gone.
