Open the hatch and look at the rear edge of the roofline where the wiring bridges across to the hatch for the taillights/defroster. There is one on each side. If the plastic tube over the wiring is broken, wind driven rain runs down inside the tube and then inside the hatch bodywork, exiting out one of the plastic screw covers in the black trim on the underside of the hatch. I figured this out when the leak filled just one of my hiking boots with water, it was right undr the screw hole.
I used tape at first which caused the plastic connection on the roof to break, then redid it with a piece of bicycle inner tube cut lengthwise and sealed with silicone. Make sure the black plastic connection in the roofline is watertight as the water can ruin your headliner. Use silicone to seal it off.
