Given that you give your name as 9000cd, I assume you've got a CD, and that your car is a '92 or earlier. That means you have the older ABS system, which uses a pump to provide ABS pressure. It also provides pressure for brake boost.

Normally, when you first start the car, the ABS pump runs, pressurizing the system. If system pressure is low, BOTH the ABS and Brake Fluid lights come on. Normally they go out after a few seconds as the system pressure comes up. The pump is actually pumping fluid OUT of the reservoir and into the accumulator, which is the black sphere. So if the car has been sitting for a while, the brake fluid level in the reservoir is actually ABOVE the line that says FULL WITH CHARGED ACCUMULATOR. Start the car, and the level DROPS to the full line.

If the pump doesn't run, you'll have plenty of fluid - it will be all in the reservoir, but not in the accumulator where it's needed. And the ABS and Brake Fluid lights will be on. Not only will you not have ABS, you will shortly lose brake boost. The accumulator (black sphere) stores pressure for brake assist. Every time you hit the brakes, that pressure gets used; the ABS pump replaces it. You may be running on the last dregs of pressure - at some point you'll lose brake boost. The pedal will get very hard, and braking distances will increase a lot. Very dangerous.

So, a few questions-
What year is your car? (Different ABS systems in different years)
How much driving (or really, how much braking) have you done with the lights on? This is a clue to what is wrong.
If the car is sitting overnight, what is the level of the brake fluid? If you start the car, does it start to drop, or does it just sit there?

You may also want to post your question over onto the 9000 part of the board, you'll get more attention to this specific problem.
