power steering groan when cold and frothy fluid Posted by henry helfman [Email] ![]() ![]() |
Noticed my PS lines just past the reservoir were getting oily so I popped off the res (did not open/drain anything) and cleaned off everything to hope to diagnose the origin of the leak. Then noticed the level was down a bit when the system was "warm" So I added a bit.
Now when the system is cold it groans quite a bit, especially when turning the wheel. Shutting the system off I noticed the fluid is quite foamy. I'm not sure if this is any indicator but with the cap less than fully tight, it seems to be less noisy.
A few thoughts are going through my mind and I know it's been discussed
Did I overfill it?
Does it need to be bled?
Is the cap a breather that might need to vent?
Should I have replaced the old fluid completely instead of simply topping it off? Could this be a problem caused by mixing old/new fluid in the system?
Thanks
Henry
