If so, I can see why this might be a problem: I recently had to be towed in my Mercedes Vito van, which is automatic and front-wheel drive, and the contractor checked his database and pronounced it could only be towed for 10 miles at max 40 mph - anything more and I'd need a suspended tow.

According to the handbook the 9000 can be towed for 25 to 30 miles (40-50 km) at up to 30 mph/50 kph but you have to add 2 litres of transmission fluid. My guess is that to balance the wheels you need to spin them a lot faster than that.

Some wheels, like the alloys on my old Gilbern 3-litre, were impossible to balance off the car but I'd never heard of a 9000 needing this procedure. Are there maybe other suspension, tyre or alignment issues that need addressing as well?

If, on the other hand, the problem is just that you only have access to a machine that will balance on the car, you could balance the fronts on the rear hubs, but I realise won't work if you have other out-of-balance components up front.

Didn't you fit new tyres back in October?
