I believe it's (been awhile since I did my last one) metal with plastic ends. I got mine at eEuroparts, got all of the bits from them, and got a motor for the fan and did that at the same time. be careful with the motor on installation, my first one was so tight I pushed the shaft of the motor and the armature slid. Needed to get another motor and do a little shaving on the housing to get eveyone to be "happy" and go together nicely.
