I've been fighting a no start problem with my 92 9000S for a couple months. You can search the archives for JimB to see what I've done prior to this post and how the car has failed to respond after each attempt.
I flushed the fuel line from the tank to the filter, installed new fuel filter, flushed fuel lines from the filter to the fuel rail, then the return line to the tank.
Removed, cleaned, reinstalled the throttle body, installed a new thermostat, and new engine temp probe.
Reinstalled the fuel pump fuse and cranked. At first it stumbled, spit, and sputtered, but the more I cranked the better it sounded. I pressed the accelerator slightly and it reluctantly started... kind of. It was not happy but it was running. I shut it down when smoke/exhaust began pouring up from the engine.
The whitish/gray smoke was flowing up from the bottom of the engine, especially from between the bell housing/transmission joint, but nothing from the tailpipe. My first impression was that I might have a plugged exhaust system, so I had my wife crank it while I put my hand over the tail pipe. It felt good, plenty of exhaust pressure. Could I have a loose baffle in the muffler? collapsed cat converter?
So I got in and started the car again. This time it ran fine, plenty of exhaust out the tail pipe and nothing coming up from the engine. It idled fine and after it was warmed up, I ran it up to 3000 rpms for a bit. Everything acted normal BUT there is a louder than normal ticking, like a lifter or valve problem.
Any ideas are appreciated!
Thanks
Jim
