IMHO, even the '93 dual back up lights are poor. I replaced the stock bulbs with either 35 or 50 watt halogen back up lights, and they still were poor.
I don't know why they projected so little light (or at least light visible from the rear view mirror(s).
I usually backed up with the back up lights and brake lights blazing and the driver's door open so I could see the whole picture.
BTW, those 50 watt halogens have been in the car since 1996 and no problems yet.
On my 1975 99 EMS, I patched in a 55 watt driving light directly into the reverse lights. I didn't have a problem with that one either, but I didn't drive in reverse that often.
