Yep, sounds like you need a new battery. With the engine running you should see 13.6 to 14 volts, and nothing lower. The battery fully charged should register 12.5 volts.
The Saab voltmeter reads the charge of the battery just after it starts the car, in other words, just after the big starter drain. The key is if the battery recovers as the alternator charges it.
So if you are always getting 13.6 plus volts at the battery with the engine running, then it sounds like you need a new battery. Like I said before, 5 years is all you can expect out of a battery.
