Hatch supports, Scan Tech or Lift-o-Matt

Now that its cold in Maryland, the hatch on my 98 CSE refuses to stay up. I see from some other posts that this is not a rare problem in cold weather. On the other hand, I've had 9Ks for many years through many cold winters (in Vermont), but never had a 9K with the problem this bad. So, I think its time to replace the struts. I see Eeuro has two flavors, Scan Tech for cheap, and Lift-o-Matt for not-cheap. Lift-o-Matt claims to be heavier duty, for holding up the extra weight of the spoiler (which must weigh a few ounces).
Anyone have experience with the Scan Tech struts? I suspect the answers may be that Scan Tech products are not uniform from product to product, and from time to time. So one good experience may not guarantee another.
thanks
Ed N
