Easiest and cheapest upgrade would be to just go to a FPT setup. You can pick up the boost control valve and the ECU used for about $250. This would get you 200 HP, as much as Saab felt the trans should handle. You could add an ECU out of an Aero, fool the ECU into thinking you've got a manual trans and get to 225 HP. You'll have to get the BPC added no matter which way you go, unless you're considering a manual boost control setup, which bypasses all the knock control.
I've done the stock upgrade (just to FPT 200 HP)on a 96 CS and have been very happy with it (now over 30K miles on the mod). Not as much horsepower as my Aero, but a fast, very driveable car.
I did the extra HP (non-stock) mod on a 87 900 CVT and took out the automatic trans in about 15K miles. But it was VERY fast.
