Run worse after gapping spark plugs to 0.8 mm...

... any clue?
I have read in this BB and sounds like suggestion that I should gap the plugs to the lower limit, 0.8 mm, in order to achieve full power from the engine and prolong life of the DI.
Well, it does seem to be wrong for me...
Yesterday, I bought a new set of BCPR7ES, gapping them from 1.1mm to 0.8 mm and installed to the car. Start & drive her and anything went swell until I hit the interstate.
Trying WOT on open road, at higher rev. the car felt sputter and lacked of the power quite a bit, especially above 4 k rev. This happen repeatedly in 2-3 consecutive trials... So, in the evening I decided to regap it to 1.0 mm, and go for test drive last night, the power came back! and no more sputtering at all!
So, just wonder what is the correct gap should I do? Lower or higher spec limit? Is it suppose to be like this or it's only on my car? Any thought?
TIA guys,
Roy in GA
