Amateur Oil Test -- M1, Standard Dino and Walmart Syn

I've always been curious how Mobil 1 would compare in viscosity to standard dino oil when it's really cold (less than -5F) so I put out three plastic containers overnight -- one with M1, one with standard (autozone brand) dino and one with Walmart brand synthetic, all 10W30. As expected the M1 flowed a little better although the dino was not like molasses or anything. What was not expected, and worrysome since it's in my 91 9KT, was that the Walmart syn precipitated out all sorts of white sludge below 0 degrees F. The bottom of the container was full of it, with the oil floating above. When it was warmed it seemed to go back into solution. I'd be curious to hear if anyone has had a similar experience & what the white sludge might be -- additive package?
